| 17. An online break (The Star) Posted: 13 Mar 2010 03:57 PM PST THE lack of funds to pay for his studies proved to be a blessing in disguise for M. Suthan, 24,. Although he managed to get enough financial assistance to cover his tuition fees for a computer science degree, Suthan still could not afford the daily expenses to pursue his studies at the college. With his father working as a grass cutter and his mother an operator in a factory, he was forced to quit his studies and look for a job. "I felt insecure because I truly believed that education was the only way to get out of poverty," he says. He eventually got a job as forecourt attendant in a petrol station – washing tyres and cleaning drains were his main duties. At the same time he also looked for other ways to supplement his income. He stumbled upon an online marketing venture and has not looked back since. In the past three years, his earnings from his ventures have enriched him enough to buy a house, a BMW and his own office. And he is now on his way to becoming a millionaire despite the odds initially stacked against him. "I hated being poor. My dad used to send me to school on an old and broken-down motorbike. I was envious of those who came to school in cars," says Suthan about his school days. This enterprising young man aims to be a millionaire by 27, selling info products online in PDF, audio or video forms for a global audience. He does so through his websites thiscrapsells.com and yoursimplystupid.com. "I am glad that I can proclaim that I didn't let my lack of education hold me back," says Suthan, adding that his parents were sceptical and had asked him to work as a security guard or operator earlier on. He has also written a book titled Radical Marketing Tips which is being sold in the United States and United Kingdom. And his retired parents are now very proud of him. He says it is not hard to make the money as long as you have a plan in mind on how to get there. "More and more people are turning to the Internet for the solution, and the money is there for those who are ready to cash in on the opportunity," he says, adding that he is on the verge of opening up a consultancy to educate people on online marketing. "Anyone can start making money online. You can start making money online even if you have no skills, no talent, and no degree to speak of. After all, if I can change my fortune by just having an SPM qualification and a resume that says "polishing tyres", chances are many others can do much better than me."
