Posted: 12 Apr 2010 10:41 AM PDT CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - 04/12/10) - The American College of Education (http://www.ace.edu), a leader in providing educators with online master's degrees in education, applauds the call for an increased focus on online learning in the Department of Education's National Educational Technology Plan 2010. "Transforming American Education: Learning Powered by Technology," http://www.ed.gov/sites/default/files/NETP-2010-final-report.pdf, a more than 100 page report released by the "American College of Education specifically created our newly approved master's in education online program in Educational Technology to prepare teachers to better engage students who are digital natives," said Dr. Jeri Nowakowski, President of the American College of Education. "We will never fully leverage technology in the classroom until teachers are fully trained to use technology as a way to increase student learning," she said. The report states that today's teachers "are by and large not well prepared to use technology in their practice" and calls for professional development for teachers by integrating technology that that supports and develops educators so that they become fluent users of advanced technology. The report also notes that the increased demand for online instruction will create a much greater demand for educators skilled in online instruction. "The best way to become fluent in technology and online instruction is to experience that technology and instruction through an online advanced degree for teachers," said Dr. Nowakowski. "Our online teaching degree graduates know that technology is the key to reaching their students and eagerly tackle their coursework so that they can improve their teaching practice," she added. In addition to the M.Ed. in Educational Technology, students pursuing master's degrees in education online at American College of Education may also choose from the following degree programs: M.Ed. in Education Leadership, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with ESL Specialization, and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with Bilingual Specialization. All courses are offered exclusively online. For enrollment in an online teaching degree, the GRE is not required.
