Washington State University Offers 4-year Online Degrees

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 12:00 AM PDT

WSU expands long-running online degree program, will now admit freshmen.

Pullman, WA (PRWEB) July 2, 2010 -- Beginning fall semester, Washington State University will accept freshmen and offer complete four-year degrees online. Since 1992, transfer students with at least 27 semester credits were eligible to apply for admission and complete their degree through distance education. More than 3,000 students have graduated from WSU by taking distance and online courses.

Offering four-year degrees online will provide access for even more students who recognize the value of a degree from Washington State University.

"We've historically served adult students who want to finish what they began years ago," said Muriel Oaks, dean for the Center for Distance and Professional Education. "There are also many people who never got started on a college degree who need the flexibility we offer and are willing to put in the hard work to earn their degree from WSU."

Recent high school graduates will also be eligible for WSU's online programs. "We anticipate this option will be most attractive to students who are already familiar with online learning and other less traditional K-12 experiences such as home schooling," Oaks said.

To be successful in WSU online courses, students need good time management skills, self-motivation, and self-discipline.

"Using the technology is not an issue for most recent high school graduates. Having the discipline to schedule coursework can be a challenge though," said Dave Cillay, associate dean of CDPE and director of instructional design.

WSU offers online bachelor's degrees in business administration (with majors in accounting, management and operations, and management information systems), criminal justice, human development, social sciences, and humanities.

A variety of undergraduate certificates is available, including organic agriculture, professional writing, and early childhood development and care. Several graduate programs are also available online, including certificates in early childhood leadership and administration, molecular biosciences, and bioethics, and a Professional Science Master's offered by the School of Molecular Biosciences.
