Kimberly Pearce, director of academic quality analytics for Capella, to represent the online university alongside fellow past CHEA award winners

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Capella University, an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high quality online degree programs for working adults, has been invited to discuss effective practices and progress on student learning outcomes at the Council for Higher Education Accreditation's (CHEA) 2011 annual conference in Washington, D.C. Kimberly Pearce, director of academic quality analytics and a key leader of the university's learning assessment innovations at Capella, will represent the online university during a roundtable discussion alongside others from universities who were also recipients of last year's CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes.

"The CHEA award is a great recognition from our peers who acknowledge the importance and commitment we place on learning assessment and using evidence to improve learner success"

At the 2010 annual conference, CHEA, a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation, recognized Capella University as the first online university to receive the CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes.

"The CHEA award is a great recognition from our peers who acknowledge the importance and commitment we place on learning assessment and using evidence to improve learner success," said Pearce. The award affirmed for us that our innovations in these areas can be considered best practices."

For the last decade, Capella University's faculty have developed and improved an outcomes-based curriculum that begins with adult learners' educational needs to ensure career success, and builds programs and courses to meet those needs. The university's assessment system capitalizes on this curricular model to measure learning, gather evidence of the learning process and report on learners' outcomes attainment, enabling leadership to target quality improvement efforts. Details on this approach and program learning outcome results are published on Capella's Learning & Career Outcomes Website (www.capellaresults.com).
