Milligan now offers advaced M.Ed. program fully online Posted: 18 Feb 2011 09:18 AM PST MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- Milligan College has moved its Master of Education advanced program fully online, making it more convenient for licensed teachers to earn a master's degree. "We have already been offering a few of our advanced M.Ed. courses online and have had great success with them," said Dr. Lyn Howell, chair of the education area at Milligan. "Moving our advanced program fully online is ideal for busy, working teachers. They will still benefit from Milligan's small classes and personal attention, but now they have the added convenience of the flexibility of online classes." In addition, the advanced M.Ed. students still have the option of taking traditional, face-to-face classes on Milligan's campus. The 36-hour advanced M.Ed. program consists of a 24-credit hour core and 12 elective credits. Students may also add an endorsement concurrent with their enrollment in the program. The program is structured so that students can complete their studies in 24 months, beginning in the fall semester, or they can complete the program one or two courses at a time as their schedule allows. The college also offers two four-week summer terms, consisting of traditional, face-to-face classes, or two eight-week online summer courses. The advanced M.Ed. is one of two M.Ed. programs at Milligan. The other option, the initial licensure program, allows students to complete their master's degree and teaching licensure in as few as 14 months. Milligan will continue to offer the initial licensure program in a traditional, classroom setting. "In our initial licensure program, we are working with students who usually don't have teaching experience, so that face-to-face teaching and observation of them is essential, particularly in the first two terms," Howell said. "However, the advanced M.Ed. students are experienced teachers and can function very well in an online classroom setting." Milligan's education area has also recently added a special education PreK-3 licensure program for undergraduates or for already-licensed early childhood teachers. "We listen to the needs of teachers and administrators, and we've put programs in place to meet those needs," Howell said. "Special education is one of the fastest-growing areas of education. Milligan's program allows people who have a heart for special education to make a difference and help children and families." Ashford University introduces Bachelor of Arts in Health Education degree Posted: 18 Feb 2011 03:57 AM PST Ashford University, an academic institution owned by Bridgepoint Education, has just introduced its Bachelor of Arts in Health Education degree. This program is positioned to support students seeking employment in the ever-expanding health care industry. During its design process, close attention was paid to America's evolving wellness landscape and the Health Education BA encompasses modern demographic trends to provide learners an overarching understanding of health care. America's health service system increases in size every day. According to the U.S. Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-2011 Edition, jobs in health education will mirror this growth with an 18% increase through 2018. This will create a demand for professionals who are versed in the nuances of health information and who can support the educational needs of wellness consumers. Ashford University's Health Education BA was created to deliver this, enhancing students' grasp of the information and background influencing the health care experience in the United States. "As health reform increasingly focuses on cost containment, there is a growing trend to focus medical care on prevention," said Dr. Alice Vestergaard, executive dean of Ashford's College of Health, Human Services and Sciences. "This degree helps prepare health educators to advocate for and work toward implementation of wellness programs and disease prevention campaigns across a wide variety of settings." The U.S. Occupational Outlook Handbook also states that a bachelor's degree is essential for jobs in wellness information and instruction. Ashford University's Health Education BA can open doors for students, placing them on the leading edge of comprehension in the health care industry. Graduates holding this degree will be positioned to pursue non-clinical occupations with a broad range of health care and life-fitness organizations, preventative care providers, as well as specialized advocacy, government-based agencies and non-governmental organizations. Available online from Ashford University, the Bachelor of Arts in Health Education does not lead to licensure or certification of any kind. It is the student's responsibility to determine individual states' requirements for practice. SOURCE Bridgepoint Education Inc.
