Top 20 Online Degree Majors Identified by EducationDynamics' 2010 eLearning Index

HOBOKEN, NJ--(Marketwire - 07/07/10) - EducationDynamics, higher education's leading marketing information and technology services company, today released the top 20 most in demand online degree majors as identified by the 2010 eLearning Index, an annual proprietary report that analyzes prospective student interest and demand in online education. The research found that the online degree majors prospective students are most interested in directly relate to career fields with expected job growth.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that the healthcare industry will add 3.2 million jobs through 2018, while 1.7 million new jobs are expected to be added in educational services, including teaching and administration. Healthcare and education related majors make several appearances on the eLearning Index top 20 online degree majors list. Additionally, BLS reports that employment of accountants is expected to grow 22 percent and employment of counselors is expected to grow 18 percent through 2018. Accounting is number five on the top 20 list, while counseling is number seven.

Data for the 2010 eLearning Index were collected from eLearners.com, an EducationDynamics web resource that connects prospective students with online degree programs. EducationDynamics examined prospective student interest during each quarter of 2009 across 3,859 degrees listed on eLearners.com. The degrees are offered by hundreds of colleges and universities of all institutional types and are categorized into one of four degree levels (i.e., associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctorate), across eight fields of study (e.g., visual and performing arts) and 92 majors (e.g., design and music).

BAYLESS SCHOOLS > District accepts applicants for school board • The Bayless School Board is seeking candidates to replace Brett Cox, a departing board member. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, at least 24 years old, a resident taxpayer of the school district and must have lived in Missouri for at least one year.

Candidates must send a letter and resume by 4 p.m. July 20 to Jennifer Wagner, Bayless School District, 4530 Weber Road, St. Louis, Mo. 63123.

Candidates will be interviewed at a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 27 in the Junior High Multi-Purpose Room. The new board member will serve until April and could then run for election to complete the remainder of the term, which ends in April 2012.

ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE > New partnership with Maryville University • Students in the deaf communications studies program at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley can now seamlessly complete their bachelor's degree.

A new agreement between St. Louis Community College and Maryville University will allow students who complete their associate degree in deaf communications studies/interpreter education at Florissant Valley to transfer as a junior to Maryville's bachelor's degree program in rehabilitation services. Maryville also offers a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling.

NORMANDY SCHOOLS > Community invited to help name new elementary school • Stakeholders of the Normandy School District community are invited to participate in the process of naming the new elementary school under construction in Pine Lawn.

The school is scheduled to be completed in the fall. The building will hold up to 400 children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Name suggestions should be based on one or more of these criteria:

• Distinguished individuals associated with Normandy schools.

• Geographic location.

• Historical significance.

• Academic focus that captures the vision and uniqueness of the school.

Submissions should also include a reason for the name submitted. To submit a name, individuals are to visit the district's website at www.normandysd.org and complete the recommendation form. LADUE SCHOOLS > Top teacher gets books worth $10,000 • Tom Hadfield, the Reed Elementary teacher featured on national television this spring, picked out the prizes for his school's library recently in Jefferson City.

Hadfield won $10,000 in books as a finalist for the Top Teacher contest on the morning program "LIVE! with Regis and Kelly."

Scholastic staff members cheered on Hadfield and three of his colleagues as they raced around the warehouse, filling shopping carts with children's books.

TROY, MO., SCHOOLS > District hosts meeting on ballot question • Citizens for Kids, the Proposition 1 steering committee, will host a town hall forum to answer questions about the operating tax increase being sought on the Aug. 3 ballot.

HARRIS STOWE > University breaks ground on second residence hall • Harris-Stowe State University plans to break ground July 20 for its second residence hall. The $15 million building will have room for 200 students and is funded by the Department of Education's HBCU Capital Financing Program.

The school opened its first residence hall four years ago. School leaders said they have a waiting list for students wanting to live on campus.

ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE > Board selects new officers • The St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees recently named Denise Chachere as its new chair and Melissa Hattman as its vice chair.

Chachere is human resources/organizational development director at Jost Chemical Co. She was elected to the board in 2005. Hattman is director of community college relations for the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She was elected to the board in 2008.

Outgoing chair Joann Ordinachev will remain on the board, which is composed of six members, each serving a staggered six-year term.
